Tom Wilson began making photographs at age 40. His work stems from a life-long love of nature and the outdoors. He has worked extensively on the Chattahoochee River providing images for the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Georgia River Network, The Atlanta Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy and other conservation oriented organizations. His work has appeared in Blue Ridge Country Magazine, The Atlantan Magazine, National Geographic Maps, Environmental Monitor, Southern Exposure Magazine (cover) and North Fulton Living. His work appears in numerous calendars, books and web sites including the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area, Nture Conservancy and the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper sites. His work was selected by the National Park Service to be the centerpiece of the Chattahoochee River “Healthy Parks” campaign in 2005 and 2006 appearing on MARTA Buses and Billboards throughout the Atlanta Area. His work hangs in numerous public spaces including Shepherd Spinal Center, Barnes and Thornburg Law Firm, Hartsfield-Jackson international Airport and the Chatthoochee National Recreation Area Headquarters.

Tom took an active leadership role in the Roswell Photographic Society in Roswell, Ga. serving as Club Vice President in 2002 and Club President in 2003. He has been recognized twice as Photographer of the Year by the Roswell Photo Society. His image “Chattahoochee Rowers” was selected as Photo of the Year by the Club in 2003 and the image “Relax, Enjoy” was selected as Photo of the Year for 2008. Tom has won numerous awards including a First Place in the Better Photo.com contest, Grand Prize Winner twice in the Nikon “Publish Your Passion Photo Essay Contest”; Image of the year for the Travel Photographer’s Network in 2003 and First Place in the Atlanta Audubon Society 2008 Photo Contest. He works extensively to document natural areas of Georgia.

Tom believes strongly that nature photographers should be nature advocates and use their cameras to protect and preserve our vanishing natural world, documenting the threats to our precious resources and sharing the beauty that makes it worth protecting. To that end Tom has donated much of his work to groups such as the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, The National Park Service, Davidson Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, The Nature Conservancy, Georgia River Network, Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway, The Atlanta Audubon Society and others.

In 2016 Tom retired from a 33 year career with the Boy Scouts of America to pursue  Nature and Conservation Photography full time.

Tom enjoys hiking, camping, birding, amatuer astronomy, astrophotography and just about anything else that gets him outside.
